Before you were born- a look at life before birth

Second grade’s Main Theme

Discussion

Objective:

Children will know a basic understanding of the environment inside the womb and review basic fetal development, including our guardian angels. Children will understand how special we are to God our Creator.

Talking points:

God created a very special space inside of each woman. It’s a space where a baby can grow. It’s called a womb. It’s not the same place as the stomach where the food is; that would be a messy place for a baby, right? (giggles) God made this special place called a womb, clean, with warm water to keep the baby comfy. The baby is just a tiny speck like a grain of salt, and God breathes into the baby the breath of LIFE, and the baby has a soul! He also gives the baby a guardian angel. The baby’s body grows and grows inside this soft warm water and experiences lots of new things each day. Babies are a gift from God!

Here are models of what the baby looks like while he or she is growing inside the mother’s womb. I’m going to pass these around. Be VERY careful with them. You can cradle them for a moment, then pass them carefully to someone else. Not everyone might have time to hold each size, but everyone will get to hold at least one of them.

(Pass around the fetal babies. Talk about how each child was once this small/special/unique in his/her mother’s womb. Give time for many to answer the questions.)

I want you to think about some things that make you special.

• What is something that you do really well?

• What is something about yourself that you really like?

• When did we become so special?

We became special at the moment we were created in our mother’s womb!

Conclusion:

God loves all babies. Babies are a gift from God! (*this is the phrase they will glue on their angel project activity at the end. See more Activity)
